01 / Walk, discuss and check readiness
Use with the people doing the work: walk the area, discuss the prompts, record actual controls and verify them before exposure. Rebrief when conditions change. If a safeguard is missing or uncertain, pause affected work and contact the responsible person.
Task and sequence
Walk through the actual task steps, materials, equipment and access. Ask the crew what will be different from the last time this task was done.
Trade interfaces
Which other trades, deliveries, lifting operations or public activities overlap? Agree sequencing, boundaries and the coordinating contact.
High-consequence exposures
Discuss potential falls, moving equipment, collapse, electrical contact and other serious exposures relevant to this task. Identify the applicable specialist review.
Controls in the work area
Compare planned controls with what is actually installed or available. Identify who checks them and what observation demonstrates they are working.
Roles and readiness
Confirm required task instruction, equipment authorization, permits and competent or qualified roles where applicable. Record gaps for resolution.
Change and emergency arrangements
Agree access, emergency communication and the conditions requiring a pause and new briefing. Check that everyone can raise a concern.
