Practical training and workplace evaluation are distinct required components. Use qualified persons with the knowledge, training and experience to train/evaluate operators. Trainees operate only under qualified direct supervision and without endangering themselves or others. Do not create a near miss, tipover, spill, unstable load or person in a conflict area for an exercise.

Stage 1 — Practical training

Record trainer demonstrations and trainee exercises separately. State what was demonstrated/practiced, dates, conditions and evidence. Record Not applicable only with a specific reason consistent with the assignment. Correct unsafe performance and practice again in the safe arrangement.

Assignment and understanding
Explains actual truck/attachment limits, current manual, assignment boundaries and stop/report actions.
Inspection and defects
Performs permitted actual checks safely; identifies a simulated defect, reports it and explains out-of-service/authorized release.
Controls and operator protection
Uses actual instruments, start/stop, steering/brakes, restraints, warning devices and permitted controls without bypassing safeguards.
Capacity and load assessment
Uses actual applicable plate/configuration, reliable weight/load-center data and load-condition checks; rejects an unsuitable scenario.
Travel and pedestrians
Maintains a clear path/view, safe speed/stopping/following distance, smooth turning and rear-swing control; follows crossings and separation.
Load manipulation and storage
Demonstrates approved approach, engagement, lift/lower, travel position, stack/unstack and withdrawal with stable loads and clearances.
Actual routes and grades
Addresses floors, ramps, narrow places, overhead limits and required orientation/visibility using permitted actual maneuvers.
Docks / trailers / special interfaces if assigned
Verifies movement prevention, dockboard capacity/security, floor/support and communication; follows assigned special-interface procedure.
Fuel/battery duties if assigned
Demonstrates only assigned actual-system tasks with approved controls, PPE and equipment; recognizes duties reserved for others.
Environmental and location restrictions
Explains actual ventilation/exhaust controls, classified-location limits and response to an unsafe condition.
Parking and emergency actions
Secures actual truck correctly; explains manufacturer-specific tipover response and safe emergency/reporting actions without inducing an event.
Unique assigned conditions and changes
Applies other actual instructions; recognizes when a new truck/type, condition, event or performance issue requires intervention.

Stage 2 — Workplace performance evaluation

Evaluate actual operator performance in the workplace, with suitable controls. Do not treat the training log, quiz or checklist signature as the evaluation. For each area record Competent demonstrated, Needs correction, or Not applicable with reason; include observed evidence, date and conditions. These response labels are Academy design choices.

Do not mark competence established while gaps remain. Complete the employer certification using actual training/evaluation information. The employer makes the assignment decision for the defined scope.
