PPE regulatory and historical RAVS crosswalk

Personal Protective Equipment · Online knowledge course resource v1.0.0 · October 21, 2026

Separate general-industry and construction knowledge tracks are provided. Generic lessons do not establish an actual assessment, selected model, individual fit, technical exposure decision or demonstrated ability. Specialist PPE/program duties remain separate.

Five general-industry training elements

Apply 1910.132(f) within its 1910.132(g) scope. For construction, T01–T05 are adopted as the employer curriculum structure, not copied as construction statutory text.

T011910.132(f)(1)(i)When PPE is necessaryP01, P02, P07Actual exposure/tasks, other controls and work boundaries.
T021910.132(f)(1)(ii)What PPE is necessaryP02–P05Actual approved models, performance/selection basis and compatibility.
T031910.132(f)(1)(iii)Proper donning, doffing, adjustment and wearP05, P07Actual fit, model-specific sequence and observed safe proper use.
T041910.132(f)(1)(iv)PPE limitationsP03–P05, P07Actual hazard limits, contact/change-out conditions and stop/review triggers.
T051910.132(f)(1)(v)Care, maintenance, useful life and disposalP06, P08Actual checks, cleaning/storage, rejection, servicing and disposal routes.

Construction instruction and equipment basis

C011926.21(b)(2)Recognize/avoid unsafe conditions and applicable regulationsP01–P10Actual work hazards, control methods, required PPE and task-specific instructions.
C021926.21(b)(3), where applicableHarmful-substance handling, hygiene and personal protectionP02, P04, P07, P08Actual substances, safe methods, PPE performance and hygiene; specialized duties separately assessed.
C031926.95(a)–(c)Suitable sanitary/reliable equipment and proper individual fitP03–P08Actual equipment ratings/models, condition, fit and compatibility.
C041926.96, .100, .102 as applicableEquipment-specific foot, head and eye/face provisionsP03Actual task equipment criteria, manufacturer instructions and specialist review as needed.
C05Employer curriculum/implementation designFive-topic instruction, safe demonstrated use and change/deficiency checksP01–P10; T01–T05 as employer structureThe employer adopts these processes; do not label exact 1910.132(d)/(f) processes as construction rules.

Important process distinctions

AreaGeneral industryConstructionRemaining evidence
Assessment, selection, fit1910.132(d)(1)–(2), within (g) scope: assess, select/use, communicate, properly fit and certify assessment1926.95(a)–(c), actual task/equipment rules and instruction; employer adopts written task assessmentActual workplace/tasks/exposures, other controls, model/performance selection, communication and individual fit.
Hazard-assessment certificationRequired record identifies workplace, certifying person, date(s), and document as certification of hazard assessmentExact 1910.132(d)(2) format is an employer record choice here, not a .95 mandateComplete required GI fields when applicable; keep separate from employee training evidence.
Understanding and ability before work1910.132(f)(2) for covered PPESafe demonstrated-use check is employer policy alongside actual construction instructionActual employee explanation and safe proper-use demonstration with the selected equipment; gaps resolved.
Retraining1910.132(f)(3): obsolete workplace/PPE training and knowledge/use gapsEmployer change/deficiency process plus actual applicable instruction dutiesRelevant instruction/practice and demonstrated understanding/ability before affected work.
Training documentationCurrent 1910.132(f) does not prescribe old stand-alone training-certification formatNo generic .95 training-certificate format is inventedRecord dates/content/trainer/observed use as employer/client evidence; check other applicable record duties.
Sanitary/reliable condition; defects1910.132(a), (e)1926.95(a); equipment rules and employer no-defect policyActual inspection/rejection, compatible cleaning/storage, replacement and authorized disposition.
Payment and personal equipment1910.132(b), (h)1926.95(b), (d)No-cost provision with actual limited exceptions; employee-owned adequacy/maintenance/sanitation and no blanket cost transfer.
Ordinary-wear replacementEmployer-paid replacement subject to stated lost/intentionally-damaged exceptionSame principle in .95(d)(5)Normal wear is not intentional damage; needed protection restored and any exception reviewed.
Proper individual fit1910.132(d)(1)(iii)1926.95(c)(2) expressly requires proper individual fitActual sizes/styles, safe movements, combined-equipment compatibility and suitable alternatives.
Equipment-specific criteria1910.133, .135, .136, .138; actual applicable criteria/equivalency1926.96, .100, .102 and other actual equipment provisionsActual model/markings, current manufacturer data and regulatory basis; no automatic approval from a newer label.
Specialized scope1910.132(g) lists .133, .135, .136, .138, .140 for (d)/(f); excludes .134 and .137 from those paragraphsRespiratory, electrical, hearing, fall, biological and other specialized duties need applicable programsThis general core does not complete specialist selection, medical/fit testing, technical qualifications or response duties.
Timing/hours/designNo universal annual full-course refresher or fixed course hours asserted for base general PPESame limitation; check actual additional requirementsApply actual triggers and separately sourced rules/client policy. Academy 80%+critical gate/three attempts is design, not an OSHA threshold.

Six uploaded historical RAVS inputs

The 2022 questionnaire is a development input. Its training-documentation wording is kept as employer/client evidence; current legal duties are distinguished. Verify current client criteria rather than transferring historical approval.
