JHA, JSA & AHA: From Task to Control

Describe the work. Explain the exposure. Choose a control the crew can check.

The complete free basic track is available. Three modules take you from a weak row to a short analysis and a usable crew brief. Each includes six lessons, two decisions, a five-question knowledge check and a reusable worksheet. Allow about 15–20 minutes per module, plus your written practice; this is an estimate, not measured seat time.

Start with Task | Hazard | Control

For supervisors, crew leads and people learning to prepare or review a JHA, JSA or AHA. No prior course is required. Work through a fictional cart-movement case, then apply the method to different conditions. Compare your reasoning with the published drywall and concrete-saw examples.

The 20 public examples, draft builders and Word/PDF templates remain free to everyone without an account. The course adds guided learning, practice and account progress.

Module 03

Use the plan before work

Brief the crew, verify controls, pause for changed conditions and establish restart readiness.

6 lessons · 2 decisions · 5-question check · All 5 correct to pass

Keep a workbook you can reuse

Draft a row, build a short analysis and prepare a crew brief. Each activity includes a different case, blank practice space, a worked response and a five-part self-review rubric.

What basic completion means

Complete all lessons and decisions and answer all five questions correctly in each module check. Feedback and retakes are available. Passing all three records basic-track completion in your account. The five-part worksheet rubric is a learning aid and does not replace site review or authorization.

This is unproctored knowledge practice, not observed job competence, certification or full-course completion. Applying the plan at work still requires confirmed site conditions, effective controls and your required review and authorization.

Paid applied training · Modules 4–6

Move from risk ratings to verified controls and revisions when work changes. Start with free Modules 1–3, then allow about 15–25 minutes plus written practice per applied module. Each includes six lessons, two decisions, a five-question check and reusable Word/PDF worksheets. All five answers must be correct; feedback and retakes are available.

Modules 4–6 require paid Safety & Systems or All Access entitlement. New paid enrollment is closed. Free membership opens Modules 1–3.

Module 04

Risk assessment and matrices

Defend initial and planned after-control ratings, examine assumptions and verify control effectiveness.

Risk reasoning worksheet and interactive teaching matrix

Work through the forklift risk case and an interactive teaching matrix. The original instructional matrix is not the USACE RAC matrix.

Paid access required

Module 05

Controls that work in practice

Explain protective function, examine control dependencies, and document installation, use and effectiveness with evidence.

Control-verification and follow-up worksheet

Use concrete-saw and forklift examples to distinguish installation, use and effectiveness. Record criteria, safe checks, evidence and follow-up.

Paid access required

Module 06

Changing and interacting work

Revise the analysis when scope, conditions or neighboring work change; coordinate shared controls and the required restart decision.

Changed-work revision and handover worksheet

Revise a changed forklift analysis, coordinate interacting activities, and record evidence, restrictions and receiving-shift communication.

Paid access required

Applied module completion is recorded separately from the free basic track. Written worksheets are self-reviewed and are not saved to your account. Full-course completion is not available yet.

Coming next · Modules 7–10
