Mining, Quarrying, and Oil and Gas Extraction Safety Orientation

This is not MSHA miner training. Practice first-shift decisions at mines, quarries and onshore oil or gas sites. Allow 30–60 minutes total for the online orientation and the walkthrough with your supervisor.

Before you go through the gate

Learning objective: Decide what your online pass covers and who clears the next step.

The overview ends with a quiz. The host confirms required instruction and access before the worker proceeds.

Two people arrive for their first shift

Jess checks in at a stone quarry. Ray checks in at an oil well pad. Both have passed this overview. Each still needs someone at that workplace to explain where to wait, who is in charge and what training the assignment requires.

This is not MSHA miner training. MSHA is the Mine Safety and Health Administration. This course gives no Part 46 or Part 48 training credit. It cannot stand in for new miner, experienced miner, new-task, annual refresher or required hazard training at a mine. The walkthrough in this course is a conversation with a supervisor. It gives no MSHA credit either.

Ask at check-in

At a mine or quarry, check with your employer and the mine operator. At a well pad, check with your employer and the person in charge of that location. Tell them your assignment and experience. Ask what training, escort, PPE and permission you need. The industry name alone cannot tell you which rules apply to your work.

Words you can use“I finished the overview. Where should I wait while you check what I need for this job?”

Source context: See the U.S. sources linked in the course resources

Begin the supervisor walkthrough at an approved meeting point. Your employer and the site operator determine the training, access, emergency arrangements and clearance for the actual assignment. The online result and worksheet give no MSHA training credit.
