Start with the shift plan
Learning objective: Confirm your assignment, shift lead, permitted areas and help before work.

Know your part in the store
Retail work includes helping customers, checkout, restocking, receiving, returns and pickup orders. The same shift may take you from a quiet counter to a busy stockroom. Ask the shift lead which tasks you may do, which areas you may enter and who can help when that lead is unavailable.
A customer request does not set the safe method
An urgent pickup, high shelf or open receiving door can tempt you to improvise. Confirm the approved route and handoff before going. Do not follow a vehicle into a loading area, climb a display or enter a service bay because someone asks for faster help. Give the customer a clear next step while you get the right support.
Understand what this course provides
This course introduces common retail hazards and questions to ask before work. It does not authorize equipment operation, complete powered industrial truck training and evaluation, or qualify you as an authorized lockout/tagout employee. It does not authorize chemical response or rescue, or provide food-handler, alcohol-service, pharmacy or other credentials your assignment may require. Your employer must confirm the training, skills, instructions and permission for your actual work. Forklift and powered pallet-truck operators need the required instruction, practical training and workplace evaluation. A coworker watching does not replace those steps.
Explain the plan back
Describe your task, route and stopping point in your own words. Ask the lead to show you the actual arrangement from a safe place. If you cannot explain it, pause the affected work and ask again.
