Manufacturing Safety Orientation

Choose food and beverage, metalworking, wood and paper, chemicals and plastics, or assembly and other production. Practice recognizing hazards, checking protection, getting help, and stopping to ask. Allow 30–60 minutes total for the online orientation and the walkthrough with your supervisor.

Start with the task briefing

Learning objective: Confirm your assignment, team lead, approved route and task limits.

A team lead briefs a new worker at a factory entrance, outside the secured production area. Illustrative scene; follow the actual site plan.

Meet before you enter production

A factory may turn ingredients, sheet metal, wood, resin or parts into a finished product. The line can look familiar while its controls are new to you. Start at the agreed meeting point. Ask your team lead: What is my job? Who may direct it? Which walking route and handoff point should I use? What must I leave alone?

Know what this course can do

This course introduces common manufacturing hazards and questions to ask before work. It does not authorize machine operation, qualify you as an authorized lockout/tagout employee, complete forklift operator training, or train you as an emergency responder. Your employer must confirm the training, demonstrated skills, procedures and permission your assignment requires. It does not authorize confined-space entry or other restricted work. A quiz pass or signed worksheet cannot replace these requirements. Forklift operator competence requires formal instruction, practical training and a workplace evaluation. An experienced coworker nearby is not enough.

Explain the plan back

Name your task, approved route and stopping point in your own words. Ask how to reach the lead and a backup. A demonstration should match your role and take place under the employer’s safe training arrangements. Do not enter a guarded cell or try a control to find out how it works.

Words you can use“I know where the parts need to go. Please show me the walking route and the point where I should hand them over.”

Complete the supervisor walkthrough from an approved meeting point. Confirm routes, machine boundaries, authorized energy-control contacts, PPE, SDS access and emergency arrangements. Record remaining training and open items before affected work. The employer documents this part separately; the online result and worksheet grant no task qualification, entry or work authorization.
