Ethics & Governance

JRI’s approach to human-participant protection, independent ethical review, research integrity, and scientific independence.

Protections before participation.

Independent ethics oversight is being established. JRI does not operate an IRB and is not itself “IRB approved.” A future study will report the external reviewer’s actual determination. Human-participant recruitment will not begin before the applicable review and protections are in place.

Belmont principles

Respect for persons supports informed, voluntary choices. Beneficence calls for assessing risks and benefits and reducing avoidable harm. Justice requires fair selection and treatment of participants.

Read the Belmont Report from HHS.

Investigator training and review

CITI Program provides research training for investigators. Training does not confer institutional certification or replace independent ethical review. Training requirements and currency will be checked for each study; a historical university training affiliation does not imply sponsorship of JRI research.

Consent, privacy, and security

Study-specific information will explain consent, confidentiality limits, access to records, retention, and withdrawal. Identifiable research responses will be separated from membership, payments, marketing, and unrelated analytics. Public inquiry forms are not research-data collection tools.

Integrity and independence

JRI’s governance approach includes conflict-of-interest review, transparent funding and sponsor involvement, responsible data sharing, and accurate reporting of methods, limitations, and findings. Unpublished work will not be described as peer reviewed.

Financial support does not purchase a particular research outcome. Sponsors may support legitimate research activities but may not require JRI to suppress, alter, selectively report, or misrepresent findings. Sponsor involvement in research design, data collection, analysis, publication, or other scientific activities will be disclosed where appropriate.

Sponsorship does not grant access to identifiable participant data. Sharing requires an appropriate study-specific basis and safeguards.
