Tell Jenkins what you’re planning and where the work will happen. Use the actual job details.
Use the published example’s suggestions when they fit your task, or write your own steps. These are planned controls, not verified worksite conditions.
Describe an observable step, how someone could be harmed, and the control that acts on that hazard. Identify who checks it and what evidence is needed.
Walk through the plan with the people doing the work. Resolve missing controls and agree who checks them. Moving to the next step does not approve the work.

Your Engineered Tilt Up Panel Brace Removal JHA
Walk through the job in order. Use these possible hazards, planned controls and checks to start a conversation about your actual work.
011. Establish the complete permanent-support release
Possible hazards: Removing a brace after only selected connections are finished can leave the panel or incomplete building unable to resist lateral loads.
Planned controls: Removal lead obtains the current engineer-issued release and identifies the panel, designated braces and retained supports. Verify actual acceptance of permanent panel connections and the complete lateral-load-resisting system, with required strength and stage evidence. Resolve missing criteria with the engineer of record before touching a brace; a connection-completion note or calmer weather does not establish this release.
Check before work: Lead verifies the full permanent-support basis and exact authorized removal stage.
022. Control access, work interfaces and observations
Possible hazards: Nearby traffic, unprotected access or an observer standing in a potential fall path can expose people during the change in support.
Planned controls: Establish the actual removal boundary, safe approaches, withdrawal route and protected observation positions under the issued method. Separate neighboring work and prevent impact or new loading affecting the panel and retained system. Confirm communication, acceptable conditions and the designated stage authority. Hold changed weather or site conditions for responsible review; never approach an uncertain panel simply to improve a brace.
Check before work: Lead checks protected positions, interfaces, observation roles and stopping communication.
033. Identify braces and support their mass before detachment
Possible hazards: A mistaken brace or unrestrained heavy component can remove necessary support or swing and crush workers when an attachment is freed.
Planned controls: Match each field brace and attachment to the actual removable/retained map and applicable system instructions. Install the prescribed independent handling support for the brace's mass and possible movement before any detachment. Use verified handling equipment and qualified lifting roles where required, keeping hands out of pinch and swing paths. Hold missing identity or unsupported component weight instead of planning to catch the brace.
Check before work: Assigned checker verifies brace identity and effective independent mass/movement control.
044. De-load and detach through the actual staged method
Possible hazards: Residual brace load, unexpected panel movement or a released end can cause a sudden change that injures workers or undermines retained stability.
Planned controls: Under the named stage release, trained crew follows only the issued engineering and selected-system de-loading and attachment-removal method. Maintain independent brace handling support and all required retained supports. Observers report prescribed panel and brace response; stop for binding, unexpected motion, abnormal load or lost communication. Do not cut, hammer free or invent a pin, bolt or adjustment order to force release.
Check before work: Stage lead records actual de-loading, controlled detachment and required observation findings.
055. Verify retained-panel conditions before further removal
Possible hazards: Proceeding after an uncertain stage can compound a connection or stability problem while multiple removed braces make recovery harder.
Planned controls: Responsible personnel compare actual panel response, permanent-system condition and retained braces with the issued hold-point criteria. Obtain the named authority's actual stage disposition before disturbing another brace. Keep incomplete observations or changed conditions held for engineering assessment; apparent straightness is not the specified acceptance evidence. Maintain the protected boundary and do not reinstall or alter support through an improvised recovery.
Check before work: Named stage authority records actual retained-condition findings and the next-stage decision.
066. Store removed components and hand over the permanent state
Possible hazards: A dropped stored brace, damaged remaining interface or unclear completion record can expose the next crew and conceal a retained restriction.
Planned controls: Transfer freed braces along the accepted route to stable restrained storage, inspecting and segregating damage under the actual equipment process. Address exposed attachment interfaces only through the issued closeout method. Record removed and retained brace identities, stage decisions, observed concerns and remaining access/load restrictions. Brief the receiving lead on the real permanent-support disposition; later anchor repair or structural changes remain separately planned.
Check before work: Receiving lead confirms component storage, actual panel/support status and open restrictions.
Example scope and starting conditions
A trained removal crew will dismantle designated adjustable steel braces from one site-cast building wall panel after the engineer of record's actual permanent-support release. Completed panel connections and the complete lateral-load-resisting system must be accepted before any brace is de-loaded. The specific brace method controls handling and detachment while panel stability remains observed. This fictional learning example describes planned controls and records no actual inspection or work authorization.
- The current release identifies the panel, brace map, completed permanent connections, complete lateral-system readiness and removal stages. The responsible engineer establishes actual evidence and permitted conditions; visible connection hardware or panel age alone is not a brace-removal basis.
- Actual brace-system instructions and the engineered de-loading, independent brace support/handling and detachment method are available. Protected working positions, equipment capacity, exclusions and prescribed retained-panel observations are established before approaching the selected braces.
- Precast temporary bracing 238120-27 is a partial connection: removal of identified tilt-up panel braces only. Raising or moving panels, permanent connection work, substitute support, anchor repair, emergency stabilization and unplanned loaded adjustment are excluded.
Know when to pause
- The actual release does not establish both permanent panel connections and the complete lateral-load-resisting system for the named stage.
- Brace identity, independent mass support, prescribed de-loading/detachment or protected observations cannot be confirmed.
- Unexpected panel/brace response, changed conditions or an unresolved stage finding appears before further support is disturbed.
After a pause, correct the condition, reassess the work, and obtain required authorization before restarting.

Questions to resolve before work
- Which actual release confirms this panel's permanent connections and the complete lateral-load-resisting system are ready?
- How will each brace's mass and movement be independently controlled before its attachments are detached?
- Who observes retained-panel conditions and releases the next removal stage when actual findings meet the issued method?
Training and qualifications to confirm
- Actual brace-system removal instruction on identification, prescribed de-loading, independently supported detachment, protected handling and component storage.
- Instruction on permanent lateral-system release, removal-stage authority, panel stability observations, stopping communication and changed-condition withdrawal.
Confirm the actual training evidence for the assigned people. A toolbox talk does not establish competence.
Decisions that change the plan
May one obstructing brace be removed early while others stay?
Only a responsible engineered stage release can authorize that specific changed arrangement. Keep the brace and panel undisturbed while the conflict is reviewed. The number of remaining braces, apparent connection completion or another panel's release does not establish this panel's support condition. Any revised support or sequence requires its actual instructions, verification and separate authority.
What must the crew record for actual use?
Record panel and brace identities, the permanent connection/lateral-system release, actual method and permitted conditions. Document independent handling support, stage observations, de-loading/detachment findings, actual dispositions, removed/retained equipment and closeout. Identify the receiving lead and remaining restrictions without prefilled inspections or an invented statement that every building load is released.

Task-by-task control and verification rationale
1. Establish the complete permanent-support release
Hazard: Removing a brace after only selected connections are finished can leave the panel or incomplete building unable to resist lateral loads.
Control: Removal lead obtains the current engineer-issued release and identifies the panel, designated braces and retained supports. Verify actual acceptance of permanent panel connections and the complete lateral-load-resisting system, with required strength and stage evidence. Resolve missing criteria with the engineer of record before touching a brace; a connection-completion note or calmer weather does not establish this release.
Verification: Lead verifies the full permanent-support basis and exact authorized removal stage.
Why this belongs in the analysis: Panel connection completion and complete building lateral stability must both support brace removal.
2. Control access, work interfaces and observations
Hazard: Nearby traffic, unprotected access or an observer standing in a potential fall path can expose people during the change in support.
Control: Establish the actual removal boundary, safe approaches, withdrawal route and protected observation positions under the issued method. Separate neighboring work and prevent impact or new loading affecting the panel and retained system. Confirm communication, acceptable conditions and the designated stage authority. Hold changed weather or site conditions for responsible review; never approach an uncertain panel simply to improve a brace.
Verification: Lead checks protected positions, interfaces, observation roles and stopping communication.
Why this belongs in the analysis: A release remains applicable only while the assessed panel and site conditions are maintained.
3. Identify braces and support their mass before detachment
Hazard: A mistaken brace or unrestrained heavy component can remove necessary support or swing and crush workers when an attachment is freed.
Control: Match each field brace and attachment to the actual removable/retained map and applicable system instructions. Install the prescribed independent handling support for the brace's mass and possible movement before any detachment. Use verified handling equipment and qualified lifting roles where required, keeping hands out of pinch and swing paths. Hold missing identity or unsupported component weight instead of planning to catch the brace.
Verification: Assigned checker verifies brace identity and effective independent mass/movement control.
Why this belongs in the analysis: The panel's support release does not eliminate the brace's own gravity and handling hazards.
4. De-load and detach through the actual staged method
Hazard: Residual brace load, unexpected panel movement or a released end can cause a sudden change that injures workers or undermines retained stability.
Control: Under the named stage release, trained crew follows only the issued engineering and selected-system de-loading and attachment-removal method. Maintain independent brace handling support and all required retained supports. Observers report prescribed panel and brace response; stop for binding, unexpected motion, abnormal load or lost communication. Do not cut, hammer free or invent a pin, bolt or adjustment order to force release.
Verification: Stage lead records actual de-loading, controlled detachment and required observation findings.
Why this belongs in the analysis: The prescribed method controls both support transfer and the component's release path.
5. Verify retained-panel conditions before further removal
Hazard: Proceeding after an uncertain stage can compound a connection or stability problem while multiple removed braces make recovery harder.
Control: Responsible personnel compare actual panel response, permanent-system condition and retained braces with the issued hold-point criteria. Obtain the named authority's actual stage disposition before disturbing another brace. Keep incomplete observations or changed conditions held for engineering assessment; apparent straightness is not the specified acceptance evidence. Maintain the protected boundary and do not reinstall or alter support through an improvised recovery.
Verification: Named stage authority records actual retained-condition findings and the next-stage decision.
Why this belongs in the analysis: Each stage must preserve its accepted remaining support condition before further change.
6. Store removed components and hand over the permanent state
Hazard: A dropped stored brace, damaged remaining interface or unclear completion record can expose the next crew and conceal a retained restriction.
Control: Transfer freed braces along the accepted route to stable restrained storage, inspecting and segregating damage under the actual equipment process. Address exposed attachment interfaces only through the issued closeout method. Record removed and retained brace identities, stage decisions, observed concerns and remaining access/load restrictions. Brief the receiving lead on the real permanent-support disposition; later anchor repair or structural changes remain separately planned.
Verification: Receiving lead confirms component storage, actual panel/support status and open restrictions.
Why this belongs in the analysis: Completion requires a traceable supported-panel state and safe disposition of the removed equipment.
Compare control wording
| Needs improvement | More useful for this scenario |
|---|---|
| The roof is mostly connected, so remove the braces. | Obtain the actual engineer-of-record release with completed panel connections and the complete accepted lateral system. |
| The brace is no longer needed; undo an end and catch it. | Control brace mass and movement independently before following the prescribed de-loading and detachment method. |
Common questions
Can this example be adapted to a JSA?
Use its Task | Hazard | Control analysis in the employer's actual JSA format. Confirm the scenario, assigned verification and real findings before relying on the adapted work plan.
What changes when the project requires an AHA?
Apply the governing AHA format, risk method, supporting records and acceptance process. The published formwork AHA illustrates additional structure; this JHA supplies no completed AHA rating or acceptance.
