Your job
Tell Jenkins what you’re planning and where the work will happen. Use the actual job details.
Use the published example’s suggestions when they fit your task, or write your own steps. These are planned controls, not verified worksite conditions.
Describe an observable step, how someone could be harmed, and the control that acts on that hazard. Identify who checks it and what evidence is needed.
Walk through the plan with the people doing the work. Resolve missing controls and agree who checks them. Moving to the next step does not approve the work.
Confirm people, equipment and emergency arrangements
Record changes, checks, and open actions
Walk the work area, review with the crew, and resolve missing controls. Follow the required approval process. This tool does not judge completeness, verify signatures or authorize work.

Your Separate Concrete Placing Boom Erection JHA
Walk through the job in order. Use these possible hazards, planned controls and checks to start a conversation about your actual work.
011. Release the identified support and boom arrangement
Possible hazards: An unready support or mismatched mounting interface can fail under the boom’s erection or later operating loads.
Planned controls: System lead matches the boom, actual mounting components and support identity to current engineering and selected-system documents. Obtain the independently erected support’s required acceptance and the exact erection and commissioning method. Resolve modifications, missing findings and incompatible interfaces before lifting; keep support erection and climbing outside this operation.
Check before work: Lead verifies support evidence and the exact released mounting arrangement.
022. Prepare protected receiving access and the lift area
Possible hazards: An exposed receiver, uncontrolled suspended component or conflicting site movement can cause falls, crushing or a collision during installation.
Planned controls: Before defining either lift or boom movement envelope, identify overhead power lines and nearby electrical sources and establish the applicable clearance and control arrangements. Provide protected receiving positions, required worker protection and rescue, qualified lifting roles, effective signals and an exclusion zone. Secure loose components and separate conflicting site movements.
Check before work: Lift lead verifies electrical controls, protected receivers and the released movement envelopes.
033. Rig and place the selected boom assembly
Possible hazards: An incorrect pickup, unexpected orientation or hand in a mounting gap can damage the assembly or expose people to a suspended load.
Planned controls: Qualified riggers use the actual boom’s identified lifting arrangement and prescribed installation state. Operator follows the accepted lift route and signals while receivers remain in protected positions outside closing gaps. Land onto the specified mounting interface with prescribed crane support retained; stop for unexpected fit or response rather than forcing pins or using crane movement to correct an unresolved support detail.
Check before work: Assigned observers report required pickup and landing findings to the lead.
044. Complete attachments before crane release
Possible hazards: A missing lock, incomplete mounting connection or assumed stable position can leave the assembly unsupported when lifting gear is unloaded.
Planned controls: Trained installers complete the selected mounting and locking arrangement under the actual method while prescribed crane support remains. System lead obtains the required component, seating and connection findings at the named release hold point. Hold uncertainty for responsible technical review; an assembly that appears level cannot replace its design and manufacturer acceptance evidence.
Check before work: Responsible system personnel verify all required attachments before directing crane release.
055. Commission within the controlled movement envelope
Possible hazards: Unintended boom movement, an unverified control or a person in the operating envelope can cause crushing or collision before concrete is delivered.
Planned controls: Authorized personnel complete only the system’s prescribed pre-delivery checks using assigned positions and effective stop communication. Maintain the previously established overhead-line and electrical controls throughout boom movement, along with the full exclusion and released support configuration. Stop for abnormal checks and secure equipment through the selected method; intrusive correction requires separately authorized energy-controlled work.
Check before work: System lead records prescribed commissioning findings and unresolved equipment holds.
066. Hand over the accepted arrangement and future restrictions
Possible hazards: A new operator may assume concrete delivery, support changes or climbing are authorized by the erection crew’s completion statement.
Planned controls: Record boom and support identities, actual erection and commissioning findings and any accepted dispositions. Secure the unit in its prescribed handover state and transfer operating limits, support restrictions and inspection ownership to the receiving pump lead. Keep delivery-system readiness, concrete placement and any support advancement under their separate plans and release decisions.
Check before work: Receiving lead confirms equipment status and the boundaries of the handover.
Example scope and starting conditions
A specialist crew will crane-install an identified separate concrete placing-boom assembly on an independently erected and released building support. The actual support design and selected boom instructions govern the pick, attachment, crane release and controlled pre-delivery commissioning. Work ends with the accepted boom arrangement handed over; no concrete is delivered during this operation. This fictional learning example describes planned controls; it records no actual inspection or work authorization.
- The exact boom, mounting interface and erected support are identified together. Responsible engineering and manufacturer personnel establish support capacity, connection, permitted conditions and release evidence; a truck-mounted boom’s outrigger instructions cannot release this arrangement.
- Selected erection and commissioning instructions, qualified lifting roles and protected access are available. Applicable electrical clearances and controls govern both crane and boom envelopes. No universal connection, pressure, counterweight or electrical-distance value is supplied.
- Pump setup 238110-14 and concrete pumping 238110-15 connections are partial: separate-boom erection and pre-delivery handover only. Mast or support erection, climbing, structural redesign, concrete flow, delivery-line installation, cleanout and dismantling are excluded.
Know when to pause
- The support, mounting interface, selected erection method or required acceptance evidence is missing or inconsistent.
- Pickup, fit, attachment or support behavior differs from the released arrangement.
- Overhead-line or electrical controls, protected access, movement exclusion, communication or a required commissioning function cannot be maintained.
After a pause, correct the condition, reassess the work, and obtain required authorization before restarting.

For managers
Does the team have what it needs to carry out the plan? Give the crew time, equipment and support, and make it clear who will resolve anything that is missing.
Manager checks and supporting resources
Confirm the people doing the work have the time, equipment, information and support to carry out the plan. Agree who checks the controls and who resolves open actions.
Questions to resolve before work
- Which actual records release the erected support and exact boom mounting interface for this assembly?
- Who verifies the designed attachments before crane support is released?
- Which selected-system commissioning checks establish readiness, and what concrete-delivery work remains separately held?
Training and qualifications to confirm
- Selected separate-boom instruction on identified lifting points, mounting components, attachment verification and the actual crane-release and commissioning hold points.
- Instruction on protected erection access, suspended components, boom movement boundaries, stop communication and controlled hydraulic or electrical isolation for defects.
Confirm the actual training evidence for the assigned people. A toolbox talk does not establish competence.
Decisions that change the plan
Can the boom be advanced to another level under this erection handover?
No. Support advancement or climbing changes the arrangement and requires its own engineered sequence, strength and attachment criteria and selected-system instructions. This operation installs the identified boom on an already released support and ends before concrete delivery. Keep a proposed change held until the responsible engineering and manufacturer process establishes its actual readiness.
What must the crew record for actual use?
Record boom and support identities, current design and selected instructions, support acceptance, lifting roles, actual mounting and crane-release findings, prescribed commissioning results and equipment disposition. Identify operating and support restrictions, unresolved defects, inspection ownership, receiving pump lead and separately held delivery or advancement work; enter actual findings only.

Task-by-task control and verification rationale
1. Release the identified support and boom arrangement
Hazard: An unready support or mismatched mounting interface can fail under the boom’s erection or later operating loads.
Control: System lead matches the boom, actual mounting components and support identity to current engineering and selected-system documents. Obtain the independently erected support’s required acceptance and the exact erection and commissioning method. Resolve modifications, missing findings and incompatible interfaces before lifting; keep support erection and climbing outside this operation.
Verification: Lead verifies support evidence and the exact released mounting arrangement.
Why this belongs in the analysis: A supported placing boom depends on a separately accepted structural interface.
2. Prepare protected receiving access and the lift area
Hazard: An exposed receiver, uncontrolled suspended component or conflicting site movement can cause falls, crushing or a collision during installation.
Control: Before defining either lift or boom movement envelope, identify overhead power lines and nearby electrical sources and establish the applicable clearance and control arrangements. Provide protected receiving positions, required worker protection and rescue, qualified lifting roles, effective signals and an exclusion zone. Secure loose components and separate conflicting site movements.
Verification: Lift lead verifies electrical controls, protected receivers and the released movement envelopes.
Why this belongs in the analysis: Safe access must be established before the arriving assembly limits movement.
3. Rig and place the selected boom assembly
Hazard: An incorrect pickup, unexpected orientation or hand in a mounting gap can damage the assembly or expose people to a suspended load.
Control: Qualified riggers use the actual boom’s identified lifting arrangement and prescribed installation state. Operator follows the accepted lift route and signals while receivers remain in protected positions outside closing gaps. Land onto the specified mounting interface with prescribed crane support retained; stop for unexpected fit or response rather than forcing pins or using crane movement to correct an unresolved support detail.
Verification: Assigned observers report required pickup and landing findings to the lead.
Why this belongs in the analysis: Placement on the support is only an intermediate stage before attachment acceptance.
4. Complete attachments before crane release
Hazard: A missing lock, incomplete mounting connection or assumed stable position can leave the assembly unsupported when lifting gear is unloaded.
Control: Trained installers complete the selected mounting and locking arrangement under the actual method while prescribed crane support remains. System lead obtains the required component, seating and connection findings at the named release hold point. Hold uncertainty for responsible technical review; an assembly that appears level cannot replace its design and manufacturer acceptance evidence.
Verification: Responsible system personnel verify all required attachments before directing crane release.
Why this belongs in the analysis: The designed support path must exist before the crane’s support is withdrawn.
5. Commission within the controlled movement envelope
Hazard: Unintended boom movement, an unverified control or a person in the operating envelope can cause crushing or collision before concrete is delivered.
Control: Authorized personnel complete only the system’s prescribed pre-delivery checks using assigned positions and effective stop communication. Maintain the previously established overhead-line and electrical controls throughout boom movement, along with the full exclusion and released support configuration. Stop for abnormal checks and secure equipment through the selected method; intrusive correction requires separately authorized energy-controlled work.
Verification: System lead records prescribed commissioning findings and unresolved equipment holds.
Why this belongs in the analysis: A mechanically attached assembly still needs its specified functional readiness checks.
6. Hand over the accepted arrangement and future restrictions
Hazard: A new operator may assume concrete delivery, support changes or climbing are authorized by the erection crew’s completion statement.
Control: Record boom and support identities, actual erection and commissioning findings and any accepted dispositions. Secure the unit in its prescribed handover state and transfer operating limits, support restrictions and inspection ownership to the receiving pump lead. Keep delivery-system readiness, concrete placement and any support advancement under their separate plans and release decisions.
Verification: Receiving lead confirms equipment status and the boundaries of the handover.
Why this belongs in the analysis: Erection handover does not authorize every later pumping or support operation.
Compare control wording
| Needs improvement | More useful for this scenario |
|---|---|
| The truck boom procedure has the same reach; use it here. | Match the separate boom to its accepted building support, exact mounting method and erection-release evidence. |
| The boom is pinned on; start pumping. | Record attachment and prescribed commissioning findings, then leave concrete-delivery readiness to its separate release. |
